A word on the Process.
So I got a couple questions yesterday while dropping off copies in regards to the process, so I’ll briefly dive in.
Also—I plan to be consistent in terms of tools/media for this limited series so I would imagine most techniques will remain in play throughout.
For the original pages I used India ink and a nib-tip pen on 11x17 Bristol Board, with a #3 round tip brush for filling in and some lines. Lettering was done with the same pen and a lettering guide.
Scanning was done on my handy Plustek optic slim 1180! (I can happily recommend Plustek devices, as I use a Plustek negative scanner for my photography development), after that I scan into the obnoxiously priced Photoshop and Indesign for some touchups and for setting my layouts.
Once that’s done I will export to Adobe Acrobat and finalize my print settings, then i’ll overwork my HP Envy 6000e and hope it doesn't finally burn out mid-print. All books are currently printed on #80 Matte Newsprint then hand trimmed and saddle-stitch bound.
Couple notes:
1) White-Out is your friend. Also, when setting your borders darken the corners with pencil for a better editing experience later.
2) Read instructions, do plenty of research if self-printing! There will be trial and error.
3) If using a normal use printer, clean your printer heads after changing ink cartridges! (self-cleaning printer options can usually be found in the Quality Tools area) Also, have a spare sheet of paper loaded in so that you don’t waste good stock on the printer alignment/printer cleaning processes. You’re going to be using a lot of ink, save paper where you can.
Thanks! Hopefully I didn't miss anything…I’m sure I’ll post more of these.
Good luck!
